30 Copilot prompts every accounting firm should steal

The prompts that save SMB accountants hours at month-end, on reconciliations, in audit prep and in client work. Written for Microsoft 365 Copilot — and they work just as well in ChatGPT or Claude, because none of them depend on a feature that can be taken away.

Why these are different from the prompt lists you’ve seen

Most prompt packs are a list of tasks. This one is a list of constraints. Every prompt names the exact output format, points at real data rather than describing it, and gives the assistant a way to say it doesn’t know — because an uncertain assistant with no escape hatch returns a confident wrong answer, and in accounting that is the expensive kind.

Each prompt also carries an operator note explaining which part is doing the work, so you can adapt it to your own data instead of copying it blindly.

Written for review, not for speed

Confidence columns, “Not stated” fallbacks and ambiguity sections so a reviewer can see what the assistant wasn’t sure about.

Tool-agnostic on purpose

Microsoft retired the =COPILOT() function on 14 September 2026. Nothing in this pack depends on it.

Includes what to keep out

Five things that should never go near an AI assistant, and a six-line verification checklist for anything that does.

One email, one link. It usually lands within a minute and the link does not expire. Your address stays here — we don’t pass it on, and one reply removes you from the list entirely.
