How we test, write, and stay honest.
Trust is the only thing we have to offer in a category dominated by hype. This page documents how Office AI Lab produces content, handles conflicts of interest, and corrects mistakes.
Our testing methodology
For every workflow, tool review, or comparison we publish, we follow the same process:
- Define the task. A specific, realistic business task — not a benchmark or contrived prompt.
- Hands-on testing. Actual tool. Real subscription. Real data (anonymized when needed). No second-hand reporting.
- Document the inputs. Every workflow article shows the prompts, data shape, and tool configuration we used. So you can replicate.
- Document the outputs. Every article shows what the tool actually produced — including failures, partial successes, and edge-case behavior.
- Test multiple tools head-to-head. If we recommend one over another, we have tested all of them on the same task.
Our rule
If we haven't personally tested something, we don't write about it. If we're summarizing third-party research, we cite the source.
How we make money
Office AI Lab is independent. We make money in two ways:
- Affiliate links. When we recommend a tool, we may include an affiliate link. If you click through and purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We participate in programs from Amazon, Microsoft, and various software vendors.
- Display advertising. We may serve ads through programs like Google AdSense to support free content.
What stays true
- Recommendations are based on testing, not commissions
- If a tool is bad, we say so — even if we earn from it
- No advertiser sees content before publication
- No exclusive vendor partnerships
What we don't do
- Accept money for positive reviews
- Let affiliate revenue dictate which tools we feature
- Republish vendor marketing as editorial coverage
- Take down legitimate criticism after vendor complaints
The way we think about it: if our recommendations stop being honest, we lose readers, which means we lose income. Honesty is not just an ethic — it's our business model.
Affiliate disclosures
Every article that contains affiliate links includes a clear disclosure at the top or bottom of the article. Generic disclosures like "this page contains affiliate links" appear where required by FTC guidelines.
If you ever see a recommendation that feels off, email us at contact@officeailab.com. We take that feedback seriously.
AI tools we cover
We cover all major AI tools relevant to small businesses, including but not limited to:
We have no exclusive relationship with any of these companies. Some may be affiliate partners. Coverage is based on what is most useful to readers — not who pays the highest commission.
Sponsored content
We do not currently publish sponsored content. If we ever do, it will be:
- Clearly labeled at the top of the article as "Sponsored" or "Partner Content"
- Subject to the same editorial standards as our regular coverage
- Separated from our independent recommendations
Updates and corrections
AI tools change constantly. We handle this in three ways:
Date stamps
Every article shows when it was originally published and last updated.
Material updates
When pricing, features, or recommendations change, we update and note it.
Corrections
If we got something wrong, we fix it and add a "Correction" note at the top.
To report a correction, email contact@officeailab.com with the article URL and the issue.
Fact-checking
Every factual claim in our articles comes from one of three sources:
- Our own hands-on testing (documented in the article)
- Official vendor documentation, pricing pages, or product announcements (linked)
- Independent third-party research (cited and linked)
No made-up data
We don't make up numbers. We don't paraphrase vendor marketing as fact. If we cannot verify a claim, we do not publish it.
AI-generated content disclosure
We use AI tools as part of our research and drafting process — it would be ironic to deny this on a site about AI. However:
- Every article is reviewed, fact-checked, and edited by a human before publication.
- Test results, recommendations, and verdicts are based on actual hands-on testing — not AI speculation.
- We do not auto-publish AI-generated content without human review.
